Combined cycle boosts output of megal compressor station

A unique combined cycle is currently being commissioned at a gas compressor station on the German-Czech border. By fitting heat recovery boilers to three existing gas turbine compressor sets, a fourth compressor with steam turbine drive has been installed to provide additional pipeline boost without making further demands on the gas supply. The new trunk line bringing natural gas from the Soviet Union to France crosses into the Federal Republic at Waidhaus. The first German compressor station is located there, about 500 meters from the border, next to an existing Ruhrgas compressor station on an earlier pipeline which has been in operation since 1974 delivering Soviet gas to the Federal Republic.
