Charge-symmetry nonconservation in pi/sup +/ and pi/sup -/ elastic scattering on /sup 3/H and /sup 3/He

OSTI ID:5711008
Extensive new data on the superratio R are reported for ..pi../sup +/ and ..pi../sup -/ elastic scattering on /sup 3/H and /sup 3/He at T/sub ..pi../ = 142, 180, and 220 MeV at theta/sub ..pi../(lab) from 40/sup 0/ to 110/sup 0/. In all cases R > 1, which cannot be explained by electromagnetic effect and therefore indicates nonconservation of nuclear charge symmetry. The charge-symmetric ratios r/sub 1/' and r/sub 2/' also have been obtained. It is found that r/sub 1/' approx. = 1 and r/sub 2/' > 1 in all cases. 20 refs., 3 figs.
