An investigation is conducted of the fluid motion and heat-transfer characteristics of a fluid with a Prandtl number of 0.02 which is contained in a horizontal cylindrical annulus of 2.6 radius ratio value. The inner cylinder is assumed to be heated and rotating, and the flow is assumed to be laminar. At a Rayleigh number of 55,000, the distribution of the local equivalent thermal conductivity at the inner and outer cylinders is greatly influenced by the development of a multicellular flow pattern due to the rotation of the inner cyclinder. 11 refs.
