300-Mw IGCC plant is rated 38% efficiency on coal gas

A new design proposal for a nominal 300-Mw coal-fired integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power plant is based on British Gas/Lurgi gasifiers feeding Type 11 gas turbines and fired heat recovery boilers. The system shows overall 38.2% net thermal efficiency on coal - better than that of a conventional coal-fired condensing steam plant of the same capacity. The design concept calls for a modular system rated around 150 MWe per module, and built using standard combined cycle plant components. Gross rating per module is 170.6 MWe (no losses) at ISO base load conditions, comprised of 74.6 Mw from the Type 11 gas turbine and 96 Mw from the steam turbine generator.
