Method of controlling the fuel supply to an internal combustion engine at acceleration

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5703310
A method is described of controlling the supply of fuel to an internal combustion engine having an intake passage and a throttle valve arranged in the intake passage, wherein the value of at least one operating parameter of the engine is detected in synchronism with generation of pulses of a control signal generated at predetermined crank angle positions of the engine, and fuel is supplied to the engine in a quantity responsive to the detected value of the at least one operating parameter. The method consists of: (1) determining whether or not the engine is operating in a predetermined condition accelerating from a predetermined low load condition thereof; and (2) when it is determined in the step (1) that the engine is operating in the predetermined accelerating condition, correcting the fuel supply quantity responsive to the detected value of the at least one operating parameter by the use of an accelerating fuel increment and supplying the corrected fuel quantity to the engine, substantially for a period of time from the time the determination that the engine is operating in the predetermined accelerating condition is obtained for the first time to the time the actual quantity of intake air supplied to the engine assumes a value required for the engine to produce output torque effective for acceleration thereof; wherein the accelerating fuel increment is set so as to decrease each time a pulse of the control signal is generated.
