Hydrocarbon free product recovery using Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) and air sparging

Conference ·
OSTI ID:569998
A case study of hydrocarbon free product recovery using soil vapor extraction (SVE) (w/no pumping of ground water) and air sparging is presented. Separate phase hydrocarbon were remediated at two locations, including an on-site commercial area and a residential area. Dissolved phase hydrocarbons were remediated in a wooded area using SVE and air sparging. The site is depicted. The hydrogeologic setting is the Piedmont physiographic province in Springfield, Virginia. A silty clay overlies a sandy silt which grades to sand and gravel. Depth to ground water ranges from 6 to 20 feet, and it flows from the northeast to the southwest. The remediation of each of the three areas (commercial, residential and wooded) is discussed below.
