A comprehensive report on current projects and future plans of the Latin America oil and gas industry details a booming expansion in refinery and petrochemical-plant construction and new efforts in finding additional reserves. As a whole, Latin America has become the most active geographical area of the non-Communist world outside the U.S. In the last few years, the area has led in geophysical surveying, active rigs, footage drilled, completions, active wells, and petrochemical-unit construction. Far-reaching plans are particularly evident in Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, and Colombia. Renewed private-company involvement is opening new areas in Argentina, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, and Central America.
