Lateral support of an LNG ship tank using flexible bracing

Chicago Bridge and Iron Co.'s new cross-bracing system for vertical cylindrical, spherical, and conical LNG cargo tanks prevents lateral movements while accommodating tank expansion and contraction with temperature changes. Pairs of cross braces are joined to a circular restraining wall or girder which is positioned around the tank. Each pair of cross braces consists of two elongated members positioned so that when one member is in tension, the other will be in compression. Each pair must be identical and uniformly spaced around the tank.
