Southeast New Mexico. Morrow a good gas play; but uphole potential makes it even better

The Morrow (Pennsylvanian) gas play which runs in a sporadic semicircle through Eddy and Lea Counties, New Mexico, is an ideal target. Although the Morrow is deeper than the most commonly developed zones in New Mexico, it has attractive qualities. One advantage in playing the Morrow is its uphole potential. Amoco is one of several companies that have begun developing this lowermost Pennsylvanian age formation. The company made its first major entry into the Morrow sands in New Mexico in 1967. Amoco's Morrow activity picked up with the passage of the Natural Gas Policy Act in 1978. The Morrow gas play covers more than 3.3 million acres, and may prove to contain reserves of up to 10 TCF of gas and 100 million bbl of oil. Production rates of wells in the Morrow play range from 1 MMCFD to 6 MMCFD with some exceptional wells testing at 12 MMCFD.
