Modeling of generating unit planned outages in the decomposition-simulation approach for multi-area reliability calculations

This paper describes an algorithm for generating unit planned outage modeling in the extended decomposition-simulation approach for multi-area reliability calculations. A brief description of the extended decomposition-simulation approach is presented. Then, the algorithm for generating unit planned outage modeling is described. The algorithm is based on a single-step decomposition of the state space, and greatly reduces the computational requirements of the approach while producing accurate results. Finally, system studies are presented to illustrate the use of the algorithm.
