A new approach to reliability evaluation of interconnected power systems including planned outages and frequency calculations
- Texas A and M Univ., College Station, TX (United States). Dept. of Electrical Engineering
This paper presents an efficient new approach for reliability evaluation of interconnected power systems. In addition to the loss of load probability and expected unserved energy, the frequency of loss of load can also be computed efficiently using this approach. Furthermore, this approach can include the planned outages of generating units in a very efficient manner. In this approach, the state space over all maintenance intervals and load states is considered simultaneously by using the concept of reference load state and equivalent composite generation model, and the decomposition-simulation procedure is performed on this state space. This allows the development of a very fast algorithm and efficient utilization of the storage. Sample studies are presented to show that this algorithm is as accurate as the previous one but many times faster.
