Prolog is the language chosen by the Japanese as the cornerstone of its radical Fifth Generation Computing System. It was first implemented by Alain Colmerauer and other members of the Artificial Intelligence Group at the University of Marseilles in France. This book introduces the Prolog II language developed at Marseilles, and illustrates its applications, in fields such as complier writing, natural language understanding, databases and expert systems.
