The Rio Grande Rift is the most active seismic area in New Mexico. The first documented earthquake occurred in 1868. Earthquakes observed since that time are tabulated. The history of earthquake instrumentation in the area is recounted. At present, the area appears relatively quiet. 4 figures, 3 tables. (RWR)
