Trans-Med gas pipeline moving toward Rome area

Now that the two critical sections of the trans-Mediterranean pipeline are finished - those crossing the Straits of Sicily and Messina - the pipeline industry is tracking the progress of the 48-in. line being laid northward on the Italian mainland from San Eufemia, where a major compressor station will be built, to Minerbio in the Po Valley. The other large stations will be located at Castrovillari, Benevento, and Civita Castellana. The terrain along the pipeline route includes some very rugged mountains where the pipe will be tunneled through rock.
