Modifications to the International Coal Trade Model. Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5669809
This report describes modifications made to the International Coal Trade Model (ICTM) to assist the Energy Information Administration (EIA) in improving the coal supply modeling capability of the model. The ICTM uses supply curves for each coal exporting country that show the price of coal shipped from each export region as a function of cumulative production. Supply curves for United States regions are derived from output of the Resource Allocation and Mine Costing (RAMC) model. The ICTM changes described in this report had the following objectives: (1) modify the RAMC program for use with Australia, Canada, and South Africa so that it can be used with the information in the ICF document; (2) using the information in the ICF document, prepare input files for Australia, Canada, and South Africa in the format required for the modified RAMC; (3) simplify and automate the previous process of generating aggregated ICTM supply curves from RAMC output for Australia, Canada, South Africa, and the US; (4) develop revised estimates of domestic demand for coal from each supply region in Australia, Canada, and South Africa; and (5) use the new input files as a basis to examine the sensitivity of ICTM forecasts to variations in supply costs in Australia, Canada, and South Africa.
