Measuring neutron flux density and average energy from /sup 3/H(d,n)/sup 4/He neutron generators by radioactivation techniques

The method covers a general procedure for the measurement of the fast-neutron flux produced by neutron generators utilizing the /sup 3/H(d,n)/sup 4/He reaction. The method uses the following threshold reactions: in aluminum, /sup 27/Al(n,..cap alpha..)/sup 24/Na and /sup 27/Al(n,p)/sup 27/Mg; in nickel, /sup 58/Ni(n,p)/sup 58/Co and /sup 58/Ni(n,2n)/sup 57/Ni; and in copper, /sup 63/Cu(n,2n)/sup 62/Cu and /sup 65/Cu(n,2n)/sup 64/Cu. The method includes a discussion of significance, apparatus, material, procedure, calculations of activity ratio, calculations of neutron flux, precision, and accuracy. (JMT)
