Technical report:The County Sanitation Districts of Orange County, Calif., make extensive use of onsite energy generated at two combined wastewater treatment plants; digester gas is the primary source the plants' digester gas-powered engines is the secondary source. Energy and heat generated by consumption at the plants, optimization of energy use and reliability, and operation experience are reviewed. The plants achieve cost savings of nearly $1 million/yr.
