The Nuclear Waste Policy Reform Amendments Act of 1986 (H.R. 4664) amends the 1982 law by limiting the disposal of high-level radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel to a single repository. After its introduction, the bill was referred to the House Committees on Interior and Insular Affairs and on Energy and Commerce. The bill puts a moratorium on federal efforts to site and license and second repository, and limits the geological character of a potential site by eliminating any crystalline rock site from consideration. Other amendments remove the limitations of repository volume and establish a Review Commission to examine technologies and scientific information relating to site characterization.
