Heat from an old coal mine in Sweden

Conference · · ASHRAE Trans.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5663401
An old closed coal mine in southern Sweden is partially filled with water. It serves as an almost infinite heat source for a heat pump, since the water temperature is about +9/sup 0/C all year. A nearby boiler plant for a district heating system earlier used 100% oil for its heat production. A heat pump was installed in 1983 and today it operates together with the oil-fired boilers. Since the heat pump was installed, oil-consumption has been drastically reduced.
