Construction of the 1084-mile All American Pipeline between Emidio, California and McCamey, Texas can begin now that approval to cross federal lands has been granted. The pipeline will ship surplus West Coast offshore and onshore oil to connect with other pipelines in West Texas that serve the Gulf Coast and Midcontinent market areas. Commercial production of oil from California's offshore sites is estimated to reach 500,000 barrels per day by 1990, which will add to the existing 700,000-barrel surplus on the West Coast. Texas pipelines have a surplus capacity, which led to the 1982 plan for the pipeline. The author describes the system's route, its choice of pipes and insulation, the pump stations, and plans for designing the state-of-the-art supervisory control and data acquisition system. 1 figure, 1 table.
