Why a pipe insulation check pays off

Journal Article · · Energy Manage. (Cleveland, Ohio); (United States)
OSTI ID:5660256
Plant energy managers must understand that insulation is not a one-time investment, but requires periodic maintenance. Therefore, an insulation checkup on hot and cold pipelines in industrial plants is necessary. The inspector should watch for signs of deterioration, water or staining, and should determine if it is still appropriate to today's standards and energy costs. Surface temperatures over 25/sup 0/F over that of ambient air on hot pipes and condensation on cold lines indicate that the insulation needs either repair or replacement. (DCK)
