Determination of the electron neutrino mass from experiments on electron-capture beta-decay

Conference · · AIP Conf. Proc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5656988
The IBEC theory has been tested for the case of /sup 193/Pt. The Q/sub EC/ value is 56.3 +/- 0.3 keV, and the data make it possible to give an upper limit on the electron neutrino mass of 500 eV (90% CL). The partial beta-decay half-life for M capture in /sup 163/Ho is (4.0+/-1.2) x 10/sup 4/ y and the /sup 163/Ho - /sup 163/Dy mass difference is 2.3 +/- 1.0 keV. From these independent Ho results a half-life of (7+/-2) x 10/sup 3/ y and an upper limit on m/sub nu/sub e// of 1.3 keV can be deduced. 28 references, 12 figures, 3 tables.
