Magnetic properties of Nd(Fe-Mo)[sub 12] compounds

Mo-substituted Nd(Fe-Mo)[sub 12]N[sub x] compounds were investigated. The ThMn[sub 12] crystal structure was obtained for an RFe[sub 11]Mo composition by optimizing the solution treatment temperature. NdFe[sub 11]Mo shows a high saturation magnetization and Curie temperature, and has a higher anisotropy field than NdFe[sub 11]TiN[sub x]. The NdFe[sub 11]MoN[sub x] magnet produced by mechanical alloying had a (BH)[sub max] of 64 kJ/m[sup 3] (8 MGOe). Recent theoretical approaches to YFe[sub 11]TiN compounds are reviewed.
