Process for making composite high temperature superconductor copper wires

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5653517
This patent describes a process for forming a composite high temperature superconductor copper wire. It comprises forming submicron sized droplets of an aqueous solution of nitrates containing the desired amounts of cations to form a high temperature ceramic superconductor; carrying the droplets in an oxygen flow through an oven at about 900{degrees}--1,100{degrees} C to form a submicron sized powder which is superconducting; directing the powder through a length of copper tubing to coat the interior wall of the tubing with a uniform compact film of the powder; and sintering the powder while passing oxygen at 700{degrees}--1,000{degrees} C through the tube and while maintaining the outside of the tube in an inert atmosphere.
