This patent describes a method for making insulated superconductor wire. It comprises preparing an oxide based superconductor wire-forming powder; at least partially filling a hollow glass preform with the powder; drawing a glass insulated superconductor wire structure from the preform and the powder to produce a superconductor core surrounded by a glass sheath; and annealing the glass insulated wire structure in an oxygen-bearing atmosphere to cause oxygen to permeate the glass sheath and enter the superconductor core.
