A technological scheme for obtaining strong granulated activated carbons from the semicoke of the brown coals of the Kansk-Achinsk basin and a modified heavy tar fraction has been developed. It is desirable to perform the activation of the granules at 900/sup 0/C until a burnoff of 20-24% has been achieved. The total volume of micro- and mesopores then amounts to 0.4 cm/sup 3//g and the specific surface to about 600 m/sup 2//g with the retention of a fairly high strength. Calculations have shown the high economic efficiency of the use of the semicoke of the brown coals of the Kansk-Achinsk basin for obtaining granulated activated carbons.
