This paper reports on Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) interest in Spent Fuel Storage and Disposal facilities which derives from several sources. In the United States, the geologic repository and interim storage facilities are to be licensed by the NRC. The responsibility and authority for application of domestic safeguards, implementation of the Agreement Between the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the U.S., licensing of nuclear material exports, and support of IAEA safeguards arise from various Sections of the Atomic Energy Act (AEA) and The Energy Reorganization Act. The laws and agreement are regulated through various Parts of 10 CFR.
