The coal-slurry-pipeline debate was revived during the two days of hearings on H.R. 4230, which would grant eminent domain to facilitate the transport of coal by pipeline across public and private lands. Statements by 17 witnesses and panel members summarize the views of the railroads, coal and pipeline industries, labor unions, utilities, and the Department of the Interior. Besides the question of eminent domain, other issues involve economics, the expanding world coal market, and water requirements. Two appendices with additional material submitted for the record follow the testimony. (DCK)
