Trapping of nonthermal positrons in metals

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. B: Condens. Matter; (United States)
A study aimed at calculating the probability of a nonthermalized positron being localized at a thermally generated defect is examined. We find that by utilizing the theoretical works of Perkins and Carbotte and McMullen and Stott a significant fraction of positrons are localized before reaching equilibrium with the lattice. These results are compared with both bulk positron lifetime and variable-energy positron data. Implication of these results are discussed.
