Munsell color value as related to organic carbon in Devonian shale of Appalachian basin: reply

In his reply to E.M. Winkler's discussion of his article, J.W. Hosterman notes that Winkler's idea of using the light meter of a single-lens-reflex camera to measure reflectance of Devonian shales of the Appalachian basin is unique and workable. The author of the reply also makes several suggestions for using Winkler's method on small samples. In addition, he notes that after extensive analysis of sampling, he has concluded that the Munsell color value and reflectance of the black shales are affected by more than just organic carbon content.
