Research and development activities were continued in studies of the radiant-heat spray calciner mock-up system for the fixation of radioactive residues. Sorption studies using natural minerals, synthetic inorganic Zeolites, and resins were continued to explore the feasibility of sorption processes for the fixation of radioactive wastes. Results are also reported on the extraction of a number of specific radionuclides by ion exchange and solvent extraction as a step in high-level waste treatment and fixation.
