Research and development studies continued on the radiant-heat spray calciner mock-up system. After A-Cell in the High-Level Radiochemistry Facility was decontaminated and cleared, installation of the spray calciner system was started. Sorption studies using natural minerals, synthetic inorganic zeolites, and resins were continued to explore and develop the place of sorption processes in the over-all waste fixation picture. In addition, studies are reported on the recovery of specific nuclides (e.g., cesium) as a step in high-level waste treatment and fixation.
