Electron capture to nearly circular states in low energy collisions of Ar[sup 8+] with cesium

Vacuum ultraviolet spectroscopy has been used to study one electron capture into Ar[sup 8+] ions from cesium at 16, 80 and 160 keV energies. Many [Delta]n=1 to 5 transitions have been observed. The line intensity distribution is compared to theoretical distributions. The best agreement is obtained with the three body Classical Trajectory Monte Carlo calculation of Pascale [ital et] [ital al].
