Total hydrocarbons, methane, and carbon monoxide in the atmosphere (gas chromatographic method)

Journal Article · · Annu. Book ASTM Stand.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5642255
A semi-continuous method for the collection and determination of total hydrocarbons, CH/sub 4/, and CO in the atmosphere is described. The air sample is introduced directly into a hydrogen flame ionization detector for the determination of total hydrocarbons. An aliquot of the air sample is introduced into a prechromatographic or stripper column to remove hydrocarbons, CH/sub 4/ and CO. After stripping the hydrocarbons, other than CH/sub 4/ and CO are passed to an analytical column for separation and determination. The precision of the method with standard calibration gases is +- 0.5% of a full-scale response. The accuracy is reported as generally +- 1% of full scale. (BLM)
