Double K-shell vacancy sharing in ion-atom collisions

Journal Article · · IEEE Trans. Nucl. Sci.; (United States)
Data are presented for the two-electron one-photon (K/sub ..cap alpha cap alpha../) decay mode of double K vacancies distributed between two collision partners. The data were generated from a variety of asymmetric heavy ion-atom systems. A model is proposed for KK-vacancy sharing that predicts a double K-vacancy ratio R/sub KK/ = exp(-4X/sub K/) = R/sub K//sup 2/, where R/sub K/ is the familiar single K-vacancy ratio. This prediction is consistent with all K/sub ..cap alpha cap alpha../ data, with recent K/sub ..cap alpha..//sup h/ decay mode data and also with x-ray x-ray coincidence results.
