This thesis reports on the first observation with statistical significance of the isospin 1 singly charmed baryon [Sigma][sub c][sup +] in nonresonant e[sup +]e[sup [minus]] annihilation around [radical]s = 10.5 GeV through its decay to [Lambda][sub c][sup +][pi][sup 0]. The complete mass splittings between the isospin triplet states [Sigma][sub c] have been measured for the first time and compared with the theoretical predictions. The mass differences M([Sigma][sup +][sub c]) - M([Sigma][sup 0][sub c]) and M([Sigma][sub c][sup ++]) - M([Sigma][sup 0][sub c]) are determined to be 1.1 [+-] 0.6 [+-] 0.5 MeV/c[sup 2] and 0.9 [+-] 0.4 [+-] 0.2 MeV/c[sup 2], respectively. The author presents the observation of the unambiguous non-spectator decay [Lambda][sup +][sub c] [yields] [Sigma][sup +]K[sup +]K[sup [minus]]. It is the first time that a strong evidence is shown for the existence of a different decay mechanism in charm decays. Many new [Lambda][sup +][sub c] decay modes which have neutrals in their final states have been observed and reported. For some of the modes, the relative branching ratios are presented. Combining the measurements of these modes and the modes previously observed, the author has accounted 25 [+-] 5% of the total [Lambda][sub c][sup +] decay rates. The implications of these observations and measurements are discussed.
