Abstract

In a broad-band neutrino exposure of the Fermilab 15-ft. bubble chamber, the production of the ..sigma../sub c//sup + +/(2426) charmed baryon followed by its decay to ..lambda../sub /c/sup +/(2260) and ..pi../sup +/ was observed. The mass of the ..lambda../sub c//sup +/ was found to be (2257 +- 10) MeV and the m(..sigma../sub c//sup + +/) - m(..lambda../sub c//sup +/) mass difference to be (168 +- 3) MeV. Previously unseen two body decay modes of the ..lambda../sub c//sup +/(2260) are observed. 15 references.

Charmed baryon [Lambda][sub c] and [Sigma][sub c] production at [radical]s = 10 GeV and their decays

This thesis reports on the first observation with statistical significance of the isospin 1 singly charmed baryon [Sigma][sub c][sup +] in nonresonant e[sup +]e[sup [minus]] annihilation around [radical]s = 10.5 GeV through its decay to [Lambda][sub c][sup +][pi][sup 0]. The complete mass splittings between the isospin triplet states [Sigma][sub c] have been measured for the first time and compared with the theoretical predictions. The mass differences M([Sigma][sup +][sub c]) - M([Sigma][sup 0][sub c]) and M([Sigma][sub c][sup ++]) - M([Sigma][sup 0][sub c]) are determined to be 1.1 [+-] 0.6 [+-] 0.5 MeV/c[sup 2] and 0.9 [+-] 0.4 [+-] 0.2 MeV/c[sup 2],more »« less

We observe the [Sigma][sub [ital c]][sup +] baryon decaying to [Lambda][sub [ital c]][sup +][pi][sup 0] and measure the mass difference [ital M]([Sigma][sub [ital c]][sup +])[minus][ital M]([Lambda][sub [ital c]][sup +]) to be 168.5[plus minus]0.2 MeV/[ital c][sup 2]. Observation of Two Excited Charmed Baryons Decaying into {Lambda}{sup +}{sub {ital c}}{pi}{sup {plus_minus}}

Using data recorded by the CLEO-II detector at CESR, we report evidence of a pair of excited charmed baryons, one decaying into {Lambda}{sup +}{sub c}{pi}{sup +} and the other into {Lambda}{sup +}{sub c}{pi}{sup -}. The doubly charged state has a measured mass difference M({Lambda}{sup +}{sub c}{pi}{sup +}) -M({Lambda}{sup +}{sub c}) of 234.5{plus_minus}1.1{plus_minus}0.8 MeV/c{sup 2} and a width of 17.9{sup +3.8}{sub -3.2}{plus_minus}4.0MeV/c{sup 2}, and the neutral state has a measured mass difference M({Lambda}{sup +}{sub c}{pi}{sup -}) -M({Lambda}{sup +}{sub c}) of 232.6{plus_minus}1.0{plus_minus}0.8 MeV/c{sup 2} and a width of 13.0{sup +3.7}{sub -3.0}{plus_minus}4.0MeV/c{sup 2}. Measurement of the lifetimes of the charmed D/sup +/, F/sup +/ mesons and. lambda. /sub c//sup +/ charmed baryon

An experiment was performed in the 350 GeV wide-band neutrino beam at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory using a high-precision, high-efficiency hybrid emulsion/neutrino spectrometer, with which the mean lifetimes of the D/sup +/, D/sup 0/, and F/sup +/ mesons and ..lambda../sub c//sup +/ baryon were measured. 1829 neutrino interactions were reconstructed with a vertex within the emulsion fiducial volume, 1242 of which were subsequently found in the emulsion. In 49 of the found neutrino events a charmed particle, produced at the primary vertex, was observed to decay within the emulsion volume.
