The US Economic Regulatory Administration (ERA) issues an interim rule to implement provisions of the Powerplant and Industrial Fuel Use Act of 1978 which prohibit the use of petroleum and natural gas by certain electric powerplants and major fuel-burning installations. These rules establish the criteria upon which owners and operators of powerplants and installations may petition for exemption from the prohibitions of the Act. This interim rule is effective as of 5/8/79, but ERA has extended the period for written comments until 8/15/79. No additional public hearings will be held; however, before finalizing these rules, the ERA will consider all written comments submitted during the extended comment period.
