Inhibition of corrosion of zinc in neutral and alkaline solutions of oxygen-containing agents

Journal Article · · Prot. Met. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

The authors investigate the influence of VO4/sup 3 -/, TeO/sub 4//sup 2 -/, CrO/sub 4//sup 2 -/, MnO/sub 4//sup -/, and WO/sub 4//sup 2 -/ on the electrochemical and corrosion behavior of zinc in 0.01 N Na/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ solution at pH levels from 5 to 12. They show that in weakly acid solutions, all these oxo anions except MoO/sub 4//sup 2 -/ and TeO/sub 4//sup 2 -/ are corrosion stimulators. The results are interpreted in terms of the influence of the reduction products of the oxo anions on the kinetics of the corrosion-electrochemical reactions.
