Thermal vaporization of polycrystalline solid solutions of the ZnS-CdS system in a semiclosed volume has been used to produce films of homogeneous Zn/sub x/Cd/sub 1-x/S solid solutions having the structure of wurtsite; these have been used to fabricate solar photoconverters with pCu/sub 2/S-nZn/sub x/Cd/sub 1-x/S heterojunction (HJ) (0 < x < 1).
