A description of some of the preliminary work done to assist in the choice of a suitable instrumentation for the measurement of corona losses on a prototype 750 kV transmission line 4.3 miles long under construction near Pittsfield, Mass. The factors to be considered in choosing this instrumentation are discussed in some detail, especially in respect of the influence of harmonics. It was found that bridge networks are the most suitable arrangement to form the heart of the corona loss measuring system.
