Two days of hearings on efforts to employ the Superfund program to clean up waste sites and deal with the contamination of water resources by hazardous wastes brought testimony from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials charged with enforcing EPA regulations. Under investigation were EPA procedures, the information in certain sensitive documents, and EPA performance in response to environmental emergencies. The hearings were part of a series of an ongoing investigation into Superfund administration and alleged indiscretions on the part of EPA staff and its unwillingness to surrender certain documents for oversight. Background and supplemental material submitted for the record follows the testimony of each witness.
