Turbo Refrigerating Company ice storage test report
The Ice Storage Test Facility (ISTF) is designed to test commercial ice storage systems. Turbo Refrigerating Company provided a storage tank and refrigeration system to make and harvest ice. The Turbo ice storage system was tested over a wide range of operating conditions. System performance was satisfactory under both charging and discharging conditions. The storage capacity closely matched the manufacturer's literature. Power consumption was greater than that quoted by the manufacturer. Based on experimental data, algorithms were derived to predict performance, both charging rate and power consumption, as a function of several operational parameters. Two discharge tests showed that the ice stored was nearly 100% available under reasonable discharge conditions. Companion reports describe ISTF test procedures and ice-making efficiency test results that are common to many of the units tested. 10 refs., 22 figs., 9 tabs.
