We present the first X-ray diffraction study of Langmuir films of discotic compounds at the air-water interface. The subjects of our study were discotic liquid crystalline compounds of two types: hexasubstituted azacrown derivatives and triphenylene derivatives with various lengths of side chains. The X-ray grazing incidence and reflection measurements were performed on Beamline X22 at the NSLS, Brookhaven. The azacrown derivative was seen to adopt a {open_quotes}face-on{close_quotes} arrangement, consistent with pressure-area isotherm measurements. All triphenylene derivatives showed one peak in grazing incidence, consistent with intercolumnar distances of 13-20{angstrom}. Mixtures of triphenylene isomers that were selectively disubstituted at the 2,3 and 3,6 positions were seem to have smaller intercolumnar spacings than each individual pure compound.
