The polarizabilities of the ..pi.. mesons are calculated in the one-loop approximation in the sigma model which includes pions and colored quarks, with the result: ..cap alpha../sub piplus-or-minus/4.3, ..cap alpha../sub pi0/ = -0.73, (ga+..beta..)/sub piplus-or-minus/ = 0.23, and (..cap alpha..+..beta..)0 = 0.65 in 10/sup -43/ cm/sup 3/ units. The causes of the disagreement between different chiral-model calculations are discussed.
