Polarizabilities of pions and kaons in the quark model of superconducting type

A Lagrangian obtained on the basis of an effective four-quark interaction is used to calculate the electric (..cap alpha..) and magnetic (..beta..) polarizabilities of pions and kaons. Allowance is made for the contributions of quark box diagrams and diagrams containing intermediate mesons: the scalar mesons Epsilon(700), S*(975), delta(980), the vector mesons rho(770), ..omega..(783), K*(892), and the axial-vector mesons A/sub 1/(1270), B(1235), H(1190), H'(1480), Q/sub 1/(1280), Q/sub 2/(1400). The form factors of the intermediate scalar mesons are used. The following results are obtained: ..cap alpha.. +- = 6.4, ..beta.. +- = -6.2, ..cap alpha..0 = -1.0, ..beta..0 = 2.2; ..cap alpha../sub K//sup + -/ = 1.1, ..beta../sub K//sup + -/ = -0.5, ..cap alpha../sub K//sup 0/ = 0.5, ..beta../sub K//sup 0/ = 0.8. The data are given in Heaviside units (e/sup 2//4..pi.. = 1/137, ..cap alpha..(..beta..) x 10/sup -3/ F/sup 3/).
