3 p/sup 6/ 3 d/sup 9/--3 p/sup 5/ 3 d/sup 10/ transitions of cobaltlike ions from Sr/sup 11+/ to U/sup 65+/

Journal Article · · J. Opt. Soc. Am. B: Opt. Phys.; (United States)
The 3 p/sup 6/ 3d/sup 9/ /sup 2/D--3 p/sup 5/ 3d/sup 10/ /sup 2/P transitions of the CO-like ions Ru/sup 17+/--Sb/sup 24+/, Sm/sup 35+/, Eu/sup 36+/, Gd/sup 37+/, Yb/sup 43+/, and AU/sup 52+/ were excited with laser-produced plasmas and photographed with grazing-incidence spectrographs. The observed wavelengths of the /sup 2/D/sub 5/2/--/sup 2/P/sub 3/2/ and /sup 2/D/sub 3/2/--/sup 2/P/sub 1/2/ transitions were compared with relativistically calculated ab initio wavelengths and, by fitting the differences between the observed and calculated wave numbers to simple formulas, least-squares fitted wavelengths were obtained for all ions from Sr/sup 11+/ to U/sup 65+/. The wavelengths range from 8 to 93 A. The estimated uncertainty of the fitted wavelengths is +- 0.005 A, which makes them useful as reference values. Smoothed values of the energy levels were derived from the fitted values of the wavelengths and 3 p/sup 6/ 3 d/sup 9/ /sup 2/D fine-structure intervals. Wavelengths for the 3 p/sup 6/ 3d/sup 9/ /sup 2/D/sub 3/2/--3 p/sup 5/3 d/sup 10/ /sup 2/P/sub 3/2/ transitions and the 3 p/sup 6/ 3 d/sup 9/ /sup 2/D/sub 5/2/--/sup 2/D/sub 3/2/ magnetic-dipole transitions were derived from the smoothed energy-level values.
