A comparative analysis of the momentum and angular characteristics of protons produced in the interaction of neutrons with C and Ta nuclei at momentum 4.2 GeV/{ital c} is carried out. The important role of secondary rescatterings in a heavy nucleus in the proton production process is demonstrated. The experimental results are compared with calculations according to the Dubna model of intranuclear cascades.
