Water1977 (new developments in oil interception by filtration)

Journal Article · · AIChE Symp. Ser.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5593135
Multimedia deep bed (MMDB) filtration technology is described, and basic design criteria and economic factors that must be considered during design of a filtration system are discussed. Different types of wastewater can be treated to the required quality level using MMDB filtration in combination with other treatment steps, with or without the use of chemicals and/or polymers. Typical secondary treatment of oily wastewaters can reduce oil content from 100 mg/l to 10-15 mg/l. Tertiary or polishing applications can reduce oil concentration to less than 1 mg/l. Successful MMDB filtration applications include primary metals, chemical wastes, and oil field produced brines from recharge. (2 diagrams, 3 graphs, 9 references, 4 tables)
