Title: 1980 sees pace quicken for Alaska construction, petroleum

Journal Article · · Alaska Constr. Oil; (United States)

An industrial prospectus for Alaska's construction and petroleum projects as of 1980 shows the influence of regulatory problems on scheduling and completing projects in the past. Oil exploration permits are expected to increase in number, but the level of activity depends on the offshore lease schedule set by the US Department of Interior. In addition to the scheduled Beaufort Sea sale, 2 other offshore sales are scheduled in 1980: one in the Gulf of Alaska, and another near Kodiak. Onshore sales of exploration tracts are also scheduled by the state. In the first few years of the 1980s, oil producers may spend $10 to $15 billion in developing Prudhoe Bay, and a major decision on waterflooding design is expected in 1980. Other planned additions include more development wells and related facilities, produced water injections, installation of a low pressure system, an artificial lift system, expansion of the central compression plant and central power station, and west end development facilities designed for a 70,000 bpd capacity. By 1986, 300 more development wells will be drilled in the area. Alaskan gas line proposals are also reviewed, with more information on regulatory processing and funding sources.
